  PUBLIC HEALTH
Public Health is:  The science and practice of protecting and improving the health of a community, as by preventive medicine, health education, control of communicable diseases, application of sanitary measures, and monitoring of environmental hazards.   Ref.: The American Heritage Stedman’s Medical Dictionary

As well as: The art and science dealing with the protection and improvement of community health by organized community effort and including preventive medicine and sanitary and social science. Ref: Merriam-Webster’s Medical Dictionary

AHECs diligently promote and facilitate Public Health as defined by the Ten Essential Public Health Services (power point presentation). through activities of AHEC Health Careers Promotion, Health Literacy, and Practice Entry and Support Workgroups.

Working to promote Public Health, we are the AHECs of Texas and Oklahoma:  East Texas AHEC, West Texas AHEC, South Texas Programs (AHEC), and Oklahoma AHEC.
